My Students

Our school has over 70% of our students living in poverty. Hands-on learning and a classroom that provides experiments in a fun, creative way are essential to our students' learning needs. The more they experience hands-on science projects, the better they will learn. Science can be exciting!

Our students are bright and respectful and truly want to learn.

They have an eagerness to experience the world of science. I want to provide rich experiences for them such as dissecting activities to engage them in hands-on science activities that will foster of love and respect for science for years to come. The times that our students have dissected animals, they have been so excited about each task at hand. They truly did not want to leave to go to their next class. I want to provide more experiences for them this year that will excite them and keep them interested in science. Also, I want for all of my students to enjoy science. It seems like the more experiments and learning activities I do with them, the more they look forward to science class. Our school has 255 total students in grades 5-8. By the time they reach the 7th and 8th grade, their interest seems to decrease in science. I want to change that!

My Project

My students will be able to dissect four, very different animals with the dissection kit that provides an earthworm, crayfish, grasshopper, and a frog. They thrive in a classroom that provides hands-on, exciting learning activities. I want them to look forward to science class. With lab partners, these kits will provide a step-by-step, illustrated dissection kit and includes specimens that are safe, pleasant to work with, and do not require any special disposal. In the past, my students have loved our dissection units, but with very little resources, I have not been able to do a lot. This year, I want to be able to provide four, very exciting dissection experiences in science labs. My students will love every minute and I hope to awaken a joy and respect for science that will foster a lifelong learning experience that will entice them to continue studying the world of science and all of the possibilities in today's job market for scientists. I want it to begin in my classroom!

My students need to feel excitement for learning.

How best to do that than to offer and provide innovative, creative, and fun dissection opportunities. They love working together in a lab setting doing hands-on activities and they seem to truly enjoy learning. I want to give them the best science has to offer this year so that they will develop a love for science that lasts well into the future. Young scientists today are our scientific leaders of tomorrow!
