Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the fun and excitement you had when you got to explore with magnets or got a light bulb to work when you wired it to a battery? How about watching and documenting plant growth? Our students need to experience this sense of wonder.
I am a Special Education teacher providing supplemental support to two classrooms.
I co-teach in two-4th grade inclusion classroom. My school is in a high poverty neighborhood in the inner city of a major metropolitan area.
My students have shown an interest in the science curriculum of our school, but the challenge has been to make it relevant to the students. This proposal will allow the students the opportunity to get their hands on the learning experience as well as having a visual learning experiences.
My Project
The requested materials will allow our students to explore the Earth and its land forms. To understand that it is a living, and active entity with magnificent sights.
They, also, will get the experience of connecting and experimenting with wires, batteries, and light bulbs to share the wonder of electricity. Grasp the concept of and understand the simple physics behind electromagnets.
Our students will see the growth of plants above and also below ground which will open doors to explore and become active members of our gardening program.
This project is important to all our students because it will level the playing field and allow our students the same experiences and opportunities as other students in surrounding districts.
It can instill a sense of wonder in a child that can make that individual a life long learner. But most importantly, it can open avenues to new and exciting career possibilities for our students.
