This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students don't have the ability to learn online. They depend on worksheet packets and whatever books they have at home. They come from low-income families and their experiences outside of their community are limited. Despite the hardships they are facing with school being closed, they are ready and willing learners.

My kiddos are very creative and eager about learning.

The larger part of my students read below grade level. They would definitely benefit from an array of classroom resources to help increase their success in our newly established distance remote learning platform. Since April, my students are barely learning at home. Because of the COVID-19 virus, school will be closed for the rest of the school year. This presents a challenge, as most of my students do not have access to reading supplies and book buddy bags to keep their resources safe in their homes.

My Project

As a kindergarten teacher, it is my essential duty to instill the experts of the world to come, as well as instill the love of reading in all I teach. Amid my 25 kindergarten students, I had the privilege to start a lending library with old used books! It was a success because students were learning to read independently, being read to at home, and several students read at least five books a week. However, it all went away when the pandemic hit and changed everything. Unfortunately, these students' only access to limited reading materials in their homes, as none could afford their own.

My kindergarten friends, with the reading level books they receive from this project, it will enhance their confidence and fluency.

Each reading kit has everything they need, and also the book buddy bags to keep them safe from damage. What better time than during a pandemic for a kindergarten child to be able to have access to level books and feel successful!
