My Students
My 20 first graders start lining up outside our classroom a half hour before school begins. They cannot wait to get into the classroom, get comfy and begin learning. Almost all of my students come from low-income homes and most are being raised by single parents or grandparents. These hard-working families are incredibly supportive, but are struggling to make ends meet. My kiddos come to school not only to learn, but to get a warm meal, a change of clothes, and most importantly a sense of safety.
Our classroom is like their home.
Your donation will help our first grade family discover the world through books, write crazy fun stories and master mathematics in a kid-friendly environment.
My Project
My first graders LOVE books. When it is their day to book shop their eyes get wide with wonder as they survey their choices. They fill their personal book bins with stories by Mo Willems, non-fiction texts about reptiles and classics I have read aloud. But we have a problem in this classroom.
We need need stable bins in bright colors to store their precious books.
Currently students are storing their beloved books in ice buckets from Walmart and they tip over ALL THE TIME. These frequent spills distract students from their reading and lead to messes all around the classroom. Please help us to get book bins that will stand up to our hearty appetite for books.
