This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Music is a very large part of the culture in our school and the surrounding community. My students are the most willing students I have taught when it comes to dancing, singing, and performing on instruments.
Students here love music as an outlet for creativity, expression, and cultural identification!
I currently teach grades K-8th in the inner city of Buffalo, NY. I teach approximately 450 students. My students love playing instruments and making music. My instrument supply is limited at the moment, and I am doing everything I can to provide my students with more instruments and instruments of quality. Please support my students and their passion for music.
My Project
We currently have a few glockenspiels in our classroom but not enough for everyone to be actively involved all the time. With the addition of these glockenspiels, we can have everyone involved playing melodies, harmonies, and chords to some great songs.
We are currently working on Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder and Get Down On It by Kool and the Gang.
The students love practicing their parts and then playing them along with the recordings. I have observed how much my students enjoy making music with the glockenspiels and helping each other. Not only are my students making music, but they are making social bonds and we have a lot of fun doing it!
