This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are bright, creative, and eager, young individuals! For the 2019-20 school year I will be teaching at the WEBDA. The DA is a new, innovative middle school in JCPS. Our school is open to all male students and our innovative learning environment will offer an Afrocentric and multicultural curriculum that is both rigorous and engaging. While many schools focus on academic achievement as the sole measure of success, we believe both academic and social emotional excellence are needed to raise our young lions into the kings they were meant to become. We guarantee each student will demonstrate growth becoming more adept mathematicians, readers, writers, and speakers, while also becoming better role models, listeners, and leaders in their homes and communities.
My Project
This school year I will be transitioning to teaching middle school all boys at the WEBDA. I would love to be able to offer my students the option of flexible seating. One of my individual rewards for students will be the opportunity to earn a pride buck. Students will be able to spend their pride bucks every two weeks within our classroom store. One of the rewards will be the opportunity to sit in our flexible seating options, including the two person couch, bean bag, or wobble chairs.
Flexible seating helps students succeed through giving them a choice in how they learn.
By giving students more choice it will help empower them to make better choices and become more successful in the classroom. Having choices helps them become 21st century learners.
Flexible seating also helps reduce the amount of behavior problems that can happen in the classroom. By having alternative seating, students have their own space to spread out and have room to work. Having alternative seating helps with engagement. Through increasing engagement, students will be more successful.
