Young Learner and Social Distancing!

Help me give my students alternative seating and technology to help support learning with social distancing.

My Students

Today, over 400 lottery-chosen students arrive by bus from inner-city Boston neighborhoods, including Roxbury, Hyde Park, Dorchester, and Mattapan. Nearly 70% of these students qualify for free or reduced-priced meals. Fifteen percent are identified as special needs and/or require a 504 plan. Twenty-two percent are English Language Learners. The school's diverse student body reflects the city’s rich cultural and linguistic heritages.

Socioeconomic demographics pose a challenge to these children, yet there are greater challenges facing these student and their families every day.

The social and economic inequities they confront daily place stress on their ability to learn and feel safe. With that in mind, it is my mission to create a classroom environment in which learning is visible, inequities dissipate, and the students have an abundance of materials to aid in the facilitation of learning.

My Project

As I develop this progress I can picture the excitement on my student faces. Imagine being able to pick a cool chair to learn in. The excitement for young learners will be amazing. Alternative sitting will make social distancing seem not so difficult. The use of the tablets will allow my student to explore virtual field trips to support our science curriculum.

This year has called for all educators to change the way we teach.

I would love my PreK students to learn in a way they will enjoy and remember, even though it is so difference. Please help me support my students as they return to our classroom.
