Young Entrepreneurs Add Zest and Flavor to our Classroom

Help me give my students inspiring materials to create their own company. Students will sample flavors from an international candy company. They will create and market a new flavor, using the fun and fancy materials provided. Thank you!

My Project

Are you a fan of Jolly Ranchers? From a teacher's perspective, they are the perfect special treat- economical and so full of flavor. Many teachers give rewards to the students who have completed all of their work by the end of the week. My philosophy is a bit different- I gift ALL OF MY STUDENTS with one simple candy on Fridays. I know that all of my students work to the best of their ability in my classes and I want them all to have something to look forward to each week. Many of our students come from families that struggle financially, so this simple treat means so much to them each week. They delight in taking turns passing out this weekly delectable.

I would like to use these zesty treats for students to come up with a plan of their own- what new flavor and type of candy would you create?

Why would you create this flavor? What type of candy would you create? What marketing techniques would you use to create interest in your new flavor? Students will create and depict this plan while using the origami paper as a marketing tool, and use the folders to organize their ideas and data. These young entrepreneurs will create surveys to find out what type of candy students and adults of various ages prefer. Students will work together with partners and will present their ideas and findings while utilizing the origami paper to market their new candy.

For the past ten years I have been purchasing the sweet treats every week with my own money. Times are hard for everyone these days. I no longer have the resources to purchase this simple treat that has brought so much joy to these students each week. Please consider funding this project.
