Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Think building robots is only for grown-ups? Think again! My diverse young students show amazing potential and skill in robotics and engineering basics. This project will provide more robotics kits so even more students can further explore this exciting field.

I teach a dynamic group of African American and Hispanic American children in Southern California.

They enjoy learning about history, diverse cultures, careers, technology, animals, nature and science. 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch every day. They live in a low-income neighborhood and are faced with many obstacles, but they are learning that there is so much more in this world to explore. To our delight, we recently had a robotics project funded thanks to our generous donors. These resources will help give even more of the students exposure to technological fields where African American and Hispanic students are under-represented.

My Project

This project is a fantastic way to increase exposure to STEM education with hands-on materials and valuable experience. First, students will learn to use materials to configure a robot's functions. They'll be designing robots and the actions they want the robots to perform. Making the customized parts movable allows the children to use design and engineering skills. This is a wonderful opportunity for more of our students to get accustomed to real-life skills that will lead to awesome learning experiences and amazing careers. Students will also be able to cherish this experience forever when they take their robot footage home on their very own DVD. It promises be an experience to remember.

My students are so excited at the prospect of building and designing robots.

Unfortunately, these activities are not usually available to students in our neighborhood. Together we can change this. You can help bring diversity to the fields of robotics and engineering! Let's get the ball rolling and increase their exposure to STEM education today! Thank you for considering a donation to our class project.
