This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love that my students come to my Dance classroom with a diversity of personal narratives and cultural backgrounds (Korean, Vietnamese, Mexican, Salvadorean, African-American, Bengali, Filipino, Columbian, Ethiopian, Mongolian). This creates an ideal situation for me to learn about my students' backgrounds and authentically encourage the exploration of cross-cultural connections in my Creative Dance curriculum.

These books will provide primary sources of information related to our complexity of cultural histories and narratives which will inform students' creative process in developing new choreographic work.

The portable speaker will be used to play music selections to prepare for informal and formal performances, while the picture books and haiku cubes will be ways to engage small groups to collaborate, build relationships, and create new choreography through the creative process.

Since I'm an itinerant Dance teacher at 5 different schools, the name tags are necessary for me to address students by their names in order to build a kind, safe, and creative learning environment as young Dance artists.
