This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach fifteen amazing students at a public inner city, Title One school in a Montessori setting. My students come from diverse family backgrounds and each have their own unique challenges and abilities. My self-contained class consists of grades 1st through 3rd. Since many of my students are still learning the writing process, a big goal we have as a class is to improve our writing skills.
We work hard together everyday as a school family to overcome the challenges my students face and be successful in the classroom.
My students are hardworking and want to be their best!
My Project
The requested blank, lined books from Bare Books will be used grade-wide by 50 1st through 3rd grade students to publish self-written and illustrated fictional texts! The students will learn about the writing process and fictional genres as they complete this project. Writing and illustrating their stories will encourage creative thinking and incorporate the arts into our classroom with tangible results in a way that is meaningful to the students. Writing their own books will help bring learning to life for them as they explore the creative process behind writing and illustrating a book. It will help to create excitement and a love of writing while exploring hands on learning.
