This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students have varying backgrounds and abilities but they have in common love to learn and to create. The art room is the place where they can express themselves visually, engage in creative problem solving, and explore world cultures. They enter the art room every week eager to learn something new and to participate in the creative process. They take pride in their work and are excited to share their creations, the process, and what they have learned with me and fellow classmates.
My art students are always creating, doodling, drawing, sculpting, folding, carving, critiquing, analyzing, comparing, and learning!
My Project
My students, much like all children, have had the experience of coloring their art with normal crayons. These students will get to experiment with other mediums, like gel crayons and paint.
By using various mediums, students can begin to explore their own creativity!
My students would probably never have this chance, given that many are low-income families that might not have the means to purchase various art supplies. I would love to be the one in their life that gave them these great experiences with art supplies. This may be just the beginning for some of my young artists!
