You'll Never Guess What I Did Today! Makerspace Time!
Help me give my students new furniture for the technology lab that is more conducive for collaboration and inquiry with their peers and STEAM activities.
Our students are committed to learning and getting a quality education in hopes of ensuring successful outcomes for their lives. The students are bridge builders who have a thirst for extending their knowledge. They are creative and intuitive with bright minds waiting to explore. Their sense of wonder is inspiring to all of us who have the pleasure of teaching them.
My students are born makers - moving what they're learning from their heads through their hearts to their hands.
They need to be taught in a way that reaches them. They need to be presented information in diverse and engaging ways. STEM and Makerspace activities grab their attention, thus increasing engagement. Hands-on, critical thinking and cooperative learning tasks creates a classroom of engaged learners who are able to show their skills in various ways.

My school’s Makerspace STEAM Lab!
Students will learn the necessary skills needed to become college and career ready while being engaged and piquing their curiosity. This includes learning how to utilize the apps in Google Suite: Drive, Classroom, Docs, Slides and Sheets. They will conduct inquiry based research on topics that correlate to their current Social Studies and Science units, as well as interest-based units revolving around the concept of Genius Hour. Students will become proficient typists by the time they depart 193.
Additionally, they will be provided with both structured and unstructured time to demonstrate their creativity and let their imagination take the wheel. They will be participating in group work to engineer and construct unique structures. They will also be using robots to further their understanding of coding and robotics in the lab. This is just scratching the surface. This could mean building communities or using virtual reality to insert themselves in places they are studying.
There would be an open floor space for students to spread out while exploring their makerspace tasks and inquiries. By providing students with a new floor plan and furniture, they will have more opportunities to communicate and collaborate.
