You'd Think A Stool Can't Be Destroyed. Well, It Can!
My students need an iTunes gift card and seven new stools for playing instruments as our other ones totally exploded after just over a year of use. Yes, exploded. Not literally, but bad enough.
Our school just got much smaller this year as a new school was built nearby to relieve overcrowding. Lots of changes were made and different programs were moved around between the schools in our county. Subsequently, we have acquired Pre-K classes that are a little scary to me because I have taught older grades for 25 years.
Our Pre-K students are in a new environment, as I am also, teaching them music.
We will learn together! What little I know about Pre-K is that they learn hands-on and they need lots of tactile experiences and feedback to gain and retain information. I'm very excited about learning how to teach this age group.
My Project
My little ones are growing fast and I like to get them used to using the stools and furniture they'll be using when they play the bigger instruments like basses and guitars (that they don't use just yet due to their size). Last year I had six stools funded through DonorsChoose that I just loved. But I'm adult. And I have the ability to sit still for long periods of time. This is all my fault.
I should have known last year that any stool with moving parts was going to be destroyed by kids due to the fact that they like to spin, rotate, and generally squirm around especially on a stool that swivels!
The recently obliterated Fender stools had ball bearings in between the two plates holding the swivel seat to the legs. Though I had the stools right up against the wall, kids are small and they can pull their legs up into the stool (something that sadly I can no longer do, so it didn't occur to me that kids would be doing this) and spin in the stool. This action and the shifting of weight loosened the plates and allowed the ball bearings to escape. Just last week, I had explosions of little ball bearings everywhere in the room. There was much collateral damage as some stools exploded so badly that the tops totally came off. I played a sad requiem while hauling them out to the dumpster and planning this project for new stools with NO moving parts. So, here is my request for new stools (for my students to learn instruments and NOT spin in). I am also requesting a small iTunes gift card to download age appropriate songs for my little ones to our iPad.
