My Project

70% of the students in my class come from a military background so they need an environment that will allow them to get to know their peers faster than in a purely local school. The 6 legged race with the corn hoe/tic tac toe will be a great team bonding experience and get them comfortable with each other as they work together to help their teams get to the finish line. They can work on their multiplication facts in stations while having fun being competitive to build automaticity. Students can then tap into their creative side with some watercolor artwork and use the sheet protectors to create a self portrait silhouette.

Allowing students to learn through team building activities and by incorporating the arts, I will be better able to build a faster rapport with students and holistically engage them.

I make read aloud a part of the day because I know how important it is for students to hear wonderful stories and when they react to what I am reading, I know they are visualizing and becoming immersed in literacy. I love being able to see how they don't really enjoy read alouds at the beginning of the school year to when I share my favorite authors like David Lubar or Amy Krouse Rosenthal and books like The Day the Crayons Quit or the Narwhal and Jelly series with them and they suddenly can't wait for read alouds.
