Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We may be biased - but we believe we have the best kids around! Our school serves about 500 Kindergarten through 5th grade students. Our goal this year is to create a clothing closet for our students in our Family Center.

We are incredibly grateful to our generous community that time and time again has donated gently used coats, clothes, hats, and shoes for our students to use, but this year, we'd love to offer some new clothes to our kiddos!

There are many, many reasons that a student may need clothes during the school day. Everything from a bathroom accident to a muddy soccer slide during recess, a lunch room spill or students' first period. Many of these times, students may be upset or embarrassed and providing students a clean, warm pair of clothes to change into can make a big difference.

In the winter, we have many students who come to school in a sweatshirt or light jacket even on the coldest days. Even in North Carolina we still have days each winter where students truly need a cozy, warm, winter coat! Within our new clothing closet, we'd like to build a section of warm winter coats, hats, and mittens to give our students on some of those chilly, chilly days. (And to use at home on everyone's favorite winter days - snow days!).
