Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with a group of "at promise" students who were pre-identified because they struggle in multiple areas, including academics, attendance, and behavior. This program and class is designed to provide students with academic and social emotional support to be successful in high school and provide them with opportunities to develop their leadership skills.

Aside from academic challenges, many of our students struggle with mental health and lack of self-confidence; my project aims to support in these areas.

My students tend to exhibit extrinsic motivation and tend to work harder if there are incentives and knowing that they will be rewarded with something tangible which is why I always look for opportunities to reward and celebrate their accomplishments. The "You Rock" pens, bookmarks, and keychains will be given to students when they reach individual goals and the stockings will be filled with treats and given to students for the holidays.The books and slime/fidgets will help students relieve stress and anxiety to better cope with challenges.

Many of our students are also dealing with insecurities due to body image, body odor, or the state of their clothing. The deodorant, spray and hoodies will be available to students in need to that they can be secure, comfortable, and confident to perform their best in school.
