Help me give my students sensory toys, Play-Doh, feelings & emotions mats, clipboards, and writing books (for journaling). We also need laminating sheets and fluorescent light covers to support their self-regulation throughout the day.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Imagine this: you are four years old, and your parents dropped you off at a school with new faces and new expectations. You can't go to the pantry to get a snack when you please, and you don't have your favorite toy with you. And then you start crying. New school experiences can overwhelm young learners by shaping their ability to problem solve, regulate, and even decrease their confidence in meeting their needs. Please help me support my students with materials to help them in their journey to self-regulation.
By teaching students to know their feelings and exposing them to materials to help regulate their bodies and minds, we can open up a world of possibilities for self-regulation and the love for school.
With sensory toys, students can calm their nervous system after stress. With Play-Doh and feelings mats, students can label feelings. Using clipboards and writing books, students can journal their feelings. With laminating sheets, I can create individualized materials for problem-solving. Using fluorescent light covers, I can create a calming environment that will support students in self-regulation throughout the day.
