My Students

My third graders are a diverse group of students who are eager to learn, but need more resources to make it happen.

My students attend a high needs title one school.

The majority of the students in our school receive free or reduced lunch. The students still come to school every day ready to learn and participate in class. Donors Choose has been a great support to my classroom in the past when I was teaching first grade, and now we are looking for more grade specific activities to use in our third grade class.

My Project

My students often struggle with reading comprehension. We are looking for ways to further enhance reading comprehension to improve on reading skills. Materials, such as "find the evidence clips" will help the students with their reading comprehension because they will be able to easily mark things they have found in their books, and use them to lead and participate in discussion. I am excited to have them use the "pick a question" activity, both fiction and non-fiction, that way they can lead their own discussions in small group without having to come up with their own questions about the text.

I know that I have always learned best when I had materials to make learning fun.

What's more fun than creative materials that the students can hold in their hands and take learning at their own pace? I know my students learn better when their learning is hands on, they will become better readers with the help of Donors Choose.
