This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My players come from all over to attend this charter school because they can get a jumpstart on their careers of choice. Unfortunately, a lot come from single parent households and get little if any financial or moral support from home. They all are great kids who happen to come from some unstable home environments. Our population is 94% minority with over 87% of our students coming from low- income families that receive free or reduced lunch. Football is their outlet to forget about some things that aren't very positive.
Mentoring these young men is my goal along with my assistant coaches.
Our objective is to fill in the gap left by absent fathers and to teach life lessons to our players along the way. We preach academics, character, respect, hard work, and morals. These young men can learn valuable lessons about life through football and we aim to teach them just that.
My Project
For years our football team has worn the same uniforms which are in sub par shape. Our players often feel like they are viewed inferior by opposing schools due to the poor condition of our uniforms. These new pants will help with the players self-esteem and boost the morale of the team. We certainly can use morale boosters as most of our players are playing football for the family aspect of a football team and looking to belong to something positive. This will allow us to pass down the old uniforms to a local little league team to help them.
