The items my class is requesting will support them with vocational training, fine & gross motor skills, and give them a creative outlet to express themselves through project based building and independent projects. Additionally, these items will help to support their social emotional learning by increasing task stamina and focusing on step by step instructions.
Tools open up a world of opportunities to students both during their school career through vocational training, and further on down the road when they graduate and begin working in the community.
During our vocational training periods, we build, restore, repurpose, and create items that my students take pride in.
Currently, we only have a couple of hammers, no drills, and only a few very large unmanageable saws for my students to use.
Our goals for this project are for all of my students to have the proper tools for the proper jobs. They need tape measures to increase their math skills and learn real-world applications for measurement. They need saws that are user friendly so they feel comfortable using them. They need clamps to hold their work and hammers to drive the jobs home.
By supporting this project, you are supporting my students to tap into skills they didn't know they had access to. Most of all, you are helping them build their own futures.
