This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My mom always said to me, "A place for everything and everything in its place." True at home and so very true in my kinder classroom. An organized classroom is the key to having the school year run smoothly. When students know where everything is and where everything goes, there is less chaos.
My students approach life with the enthusiasm and curiosity that all five-year-old children seem to have in abundance.
Despite living in a low socioeconomic area where their parents struggle to make ends meet, they are incredibly hopeful and looking forward to the future. My students' parents want the best education possible for them, but due to financial constraints, many cannot afford to have books, puzzles and other educational toys at home. It is up to me and the school to provide these wonderful, amazing, eager and bright kids with a wide variety of learning tools. We are a Title 1 school, which means that we do get funds to improve the academic achievement of the disadvantage, but not enough to provide every classroom with all the "extras" that they need. In fact due to all the budget cuts, we are running very low on essential supplies such as pencils, crayons, scissors, erasers, and even multipurpose paper. Organization tools are deemed "non-essential"
My Project
Day in and day out, my students produce a lot of work that needs to go home. This work typically ends up in a box or on my desk that I have to then sort and file for each child to take home at some point. If we had a 24 compartment organizer in the classroom, my students could use it as personal mailboxes to put in their completed work. All of the work would already be organized for me to pull out and send home. My students could also write personal notes to friends and then "mail" them to their friends. This would encourage more writing in the classroom. I would also have a place to put the personal notes of praise or encouragement that I like to write to my students. They always feel so proud to receive those notes. In addition, having the 24 compartment organizer will encourage my students to be more organized. The stickers and charts that I am asking for will help motivate my students to behave better and to do better work. They do love earning stickers.
Being organized is a very important skill that will help any student succeed not only in school but in life.
Being organized with our materials and our time, helps us to be more efficient and more capable to do our work/job. Please help me teach my students this very important life skill.
