My Project
After reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, my students have been extremely interested in how caterpillars turn into butterflies. For the springtime, I want my students to be able to learn how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly in a fun and interactive way.
Butterflies will get my students excited about learning in a fun and interactive way!
I plan to introduce the caterpillars to my class as a classroom pet. We will learn how caterpillars grow and get bigger and bigger, just like The Very Hungry Caterpillar. When they get too big, they will create their crystals and hopefully become a beautiful butterfly. My students will love seeing how caterpillars become butterflies just as much as The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
I still remember doing this as an elementary school student and I want to give my students these lifelong memories too! All my students have some form of a cognitive disability and seeing the whole lifecycles of live butterflies will help them learn and understand how caterpillars become butterflies.
