This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I currently teach first grade in a Title I school on the Northwest side of Chicago. One of my strongest passions being a primary teacher is providing my students with a love of learning that will transcend their entire lifetime. In order for students to be successful in school, I believe they need to be engaged in learning. In my classroom, students are exposed daily to a variety of multi-sensory language art and mathematical activities. Students are able to practice skills with flashcards, games, and manipulatives such as play-doh, stamps, and wiki sticks. However, due to budget cuts it is difficult to provide these items for my students.
My Project
Being able to work in small groups is critical to meet the varied needs of students in my classroom. A teaching easel would be a wonderful tool to use during mini lessons. The easel is not just a white board but also has a built in ledge and holder to display the pages of big books for read aloud. The back of the easel provides great storage for classroom materials as well. Students would also have their own white boards and mini erasers to use during mini lessons. Not only are white boards a great tool to help make a quick formative assessment during a lesson, but students have fun using them. Finally, a white board organizer is a simple way to keep supplies tidy and ready for the next use!
