My Project
Calculators are the most commonly used devices in the math classroom, and we just heard that we don't have the budget for them! Our students are bright, energetic, and oftentimes we forget about the most essential tools that are the easiest to implement. Our young people know and use the basic functions of the calculator app on their phones, but we want students to learn how to use devices that aren't on their phone, especially when we're in assessment mode.
In my Algebra and Statistics classes alike, students need to be prepared to use calculators daily, so that they can focus on the higher level mathematical thinking content!
11th grade is an important year for our students, as they need to be prepared to use the different functions of scientific calculators in learning and understanding Algebra 2 level content. Similarly, our seniors love using calculators in class to help them organize their thoughts and low-level calculations so they can focus more on the statistical processes for sets of data.
