Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine having the very thing that your special education students describe or accomplish on the computer being printed in your classroom? Then imagine the joy and pride on their faces as they are displayed in the classroom and in the hallways.
My students struggle every day with cognitive disabilities that prevent them from creating work like their non disabled peers.
They have experiences, learn lessons, and contribute to their learning every day, yet something as simple as writing things down proves to be a constant uphill battle.
This Los Angeles school has a wonderful specialized population that contributes to the richness and diversity of Los Angeles. Each of my students brings a unique personality and unending energy to school every day. These students have so much to offer the school and the community.
My Project
With this printer and extra toner, we will be able to print the documents that the students themselves create through a variety of programs. They will also be able to access supplemental and alternate curriculum materials that we so desperately need copies of. The students often need specialized writing paper in various line sizes that we need to make ourselves and the printer will allow us to access and accomplish all of this. Additionally, my students often need remediation and reteaching of many materials and this copier will allow us to make these materials available for them as soon as it is needed.
As a special needs class, we require so much supplemental or alternate material that needs to be created by the teacher herself.
With the minimal amount of copies allotted to us, this is not often possible. Additionally, the students in my classroom have disabilities that make it very hard to express written information the way general education students do. This printer would allow us to help meet the needs of my students.
