My Project
This project was inspired during a visit to Barnes and Noble while selecting a book for my book club. In the store, I noticed a variety of voting-themed books for children. Although I was unsure how to incorporate this into my classroom, I conducted some research on "Pinterest" and discovered some creative ideas.
I am thrilled to bring the electoral process into my classroom in a fun and creative way!
My students will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates: Mr. Goldfish Cracker and Mr. Teddy Graham. In the week leading up to the election, I will read one of the voting books listed in this project during story time.
To create a festive atmosphere, I will decorate the classroom in patriotic colors and set up real-ish ballot boxes. We will introduce the candidates, create anchor charts listing pros and cons, conduct the election, and involve students in tallying and graphing the results Students will cast their votes on slips of paper. We will also graph our results on a board. Each student will receive an "I Voted" sticker and some patriotic treats to take home. To celebrate the results, we will enjoy the winning "candidate" for a special snack that day!
