My Students
Nelson Mandela said, “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire, it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It laughs in the face of all types of discrimination.” Help the future generation learn this important lesson by providing my students with the equipment to participate in a variety of sports/physical activities.
In my classes, one of the top priorities is for students to learn to put aside their differences from one another and come together to work for a common goal.
Each school year, along with the other PE teacher at my school, we are given the opportunity to teach every student in the school. We believe we can make the world a better place by helping our students learn to respect ALL people, regardless of gender, abilities, skills, cultures, etc. My students work with their respective teams all semester in order to accomplish this goal. They learn communication skills, how to resolve conflicts and effective teamwork all through the use of sports. Help my students continue to learn these important life skills by providing them the opportunity to participate in a myriad of sports/physical activities.
My Project
Since the school year has started, each Wednesday students have had the option to do yoga during class. Yoga is a great stress reliever, which we all need at this time! I have many students that don't particularly enjoy team sports, but I have seen these students really enjoy doing yoga each week. Not only are these students relieving stress, taking care of their mental health, and doing physical activity, but they are engaging in a lifetime activity. Students can practice and reap the many benefits of yoga for life.
We currently do not have enough mats for each student to have their own individual mat.
These mats will help each student to have their own soft space to enjoy their yoga.
