My students are at my school for a Career and Technical Experience in one of our many trade programs, but all students must take biology! They love hands-on and research-based experiences that can show them how they can see biology in their every day lives.
My students are more than a letter grade on the state report card.
Yes, our school is 25% Limited English Proficiency, 38% Special Education, and 100% Free-Reduced Lunch, but my students want to learn about the world around them. As children who only know a world with technology, they need to be prepared to use a variety of tools to be productive members of society.
Do you know where your next meal is coming from? Did you ever solely rely on the meals provided by your school? Do you know what it's like to try and focus on an empty stomach? Did you ever have to ask your teacher for something to eat? These are realities for students in my class.
Help provide me with healthy snacks to nourish students in biology class.
If you've never gone hungry, It's hard to understand what it feels like to haven't eaten. What is learning Biology when a student's stomach is hollow? These poverty-level students are always hungry and not always able to get meals at home or their foster homes, their teenage bodies are rapidly growing and requiring fuel. Help my students learn, by taking care of their rumbling bellies.
