Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Earlier this year, my class was fortunate to have an iPad donated to our classroom. It is a hard task to have 12 children share 1 iPad, since they all want to use it at the same time. The addition of another iPad will enable me to form an iPad center so all of the children will have a turn.
I teach 12 wonderful kindergarten, first and second grade special needs students.
Most of my students are language impaired or learning disabled. They learn best using their preferred learning modality which can be visual, tactile, or auditory. Most of my students come from homes where technology does not exist. They are motivated by the chance to use technology when at school.
My Project
Having a second iPad, case and headphones in the classroom will enable the creation of a center to use during center time. My students can understand the rules when it comes to center time. They know after a certain time frame, they will have a chance to use the iPad this in turn will lessen negative behavior and emotional meltdowns when they do not get a chance to play. They will learn how to wait their turn and practice skills using apps geared toward the common core curriculum.
It breaks my heart to see my students get angry or sad when they cannot use technology.
Having an extra iPad in the classroom will bring joy and routine to my students and this will help them learn academically and socially. Please help us create an iPad Center!
