You Can't Go Back Once Play-Doh is Mixed...But Why Would You?
My students need Play-Doh packs, playsets, sweet shoppe sets, and other Play-Doh materials to not only support their sensory needs, but to also support their dramatic play skills.
Do you remember the first time your fingers squeezed through Play-Doh? That soft, gooey, colorful dough? Having this experience should be something every three year old gets to have on a daily basis in their classroom.
My students live in our nation's capital and live in one of the most violent communities there.
Our school is the students' oasis in their violent community. It is a place where they can come and feel safe and know there are people there who love and care about them, even when they arrive 2 hours before school starts because their parent/guardian had somewhere to be.
Despite being labeled as one of the District's lowest 40 performing schools, we are well on our way out of the bottom 40. One of the reasons is because of our strong Early Childhood Program, which works endlessly to build our students prior knowledge and expose them to new things.
My Project
My students will use the Play-Doh packs, playsets, sweet shoppe sets, and other Play-Doh materials to facilitate their dramatic play skills in our various themes. Several of the Play-Doh materials will be used during our grocery store and restaurant themes. They will allow for my sensory learners to actually make props for the bakery and ice cream shop. They will also be able to do real dental work during our doctor theme with the Drill n' Fill Play Set. With the quantity of materials being requested, Play-Doh does not have to be only an Art center activity, but it can be incorporated into all 6 centers.
This project will make a difference in not only the classroom, but in my students' lives.
Playing with Play-Doh is something that every three year old should get to experience, and often in their classroom is the only place they can. These materials will engage them in real life dramatic play that will help to facilitate social skills, self regulation, and vocabulary.
