My Students
Have you ever had to go back and reread a sentence because it didn't quite make sense the first time you read it? Or realized how your inflections of particular words and phrases can completely change the way it is interpreted by others?
I am a first year teacher at a Title 1 school where I teach first grade.
Seventy-seven percent of our student population is on free or reduced lunch. I have eighteen First Grade students who come from a wide range of backgrounds. My class includes kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learners. I have students that perform below grade level, on grade level, and above grade level. My students love to sit down with a book, but are still learning the skills needed to become fluent readers. As a first year teacher, my resources are very limited, especially those for fluency.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of different fluency-based centers that will be used daily by all of my students. These centers have the ability to be differentiated on each student's individual reading level while reinforcing essential skills required for them to become more fluent readers. These skills include pacing, intonation, expression, accuracy, comprehension, and word recognition. These centers will not only be helping my students with their fluency practice, but also with the very important lesson of teamwork. The materials will allow students to work efficiently together to practice fluency through partner reading and timed fluency readings.
This project is important to me because my students are eager to learn and very eager to become better readers.
The learning opportunity that these materials would provide to my students is immeasurable. Your donation will make it possible for ALL of my students to have a variety of ways to practice their fluency. Without your help, I would not be able to provide these additional materials for my classroom, so I would like YOU for helping to influence my First Graders fluency!!
