I am a first year teacher at a Title 1 school where I teach first grade. Seventy-seven percent of our student population is on free/reduced lunch. I have eighteen First Grade students who come from a variety of backgrounds. My class includes kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learners. I have students that perform below grade level, on grade level, and above grade level. My students love to go to the reading corner and get a book to sit down and read. As a new teacher, my classroom library is small and yearns to grow. I borrow books from the library and other teachers, but would love to be able to have books in our classroom that the students know are ours and that they desire to read! They would be able to read these books during centers, together with a partner, and even bring them home to read to their parents and to their siblings. Each and every one of my students would benefit greatly from these books.
