This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In our low-income/high poverty school district where 100% of the students qualify for free lunch, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. To combat the many challenges they face, I am determined to provide and expose them to the technology and skills they need to succeed in the 21st century. They are curious, eager to learn, and desperate to please anyone who takes an interest! My students don't have technology at home so I'm looking to provide it in our classroom for them to experience. Keeping them engaged and learning new ways to incorporate technology is a goal.

My Project

Hands-on math is how it all begins in first grade! Math manipulatives are key to giving students one to one counting experiences and for them to make connections.

Keeping six year olds engaged in counting, adding, and subtracting can be tricky, but with interesting animal and math counters it's easy to stay focused!

Giving my students many opportunities to work collaboratively and to share about how they represented their thinking is a must. My first graders love to be problem solvers and active participants in their learning. These math tools will continue their love of math and learning.
