My Project
Students in Pre-K love to count by exploring the world around them! I would like to enhance my STEM instruction in my classroom, specifically honing in on my students various math skills and abilities.
I am requesting various math counters and fine motor manipulatives for students to utilize in hands-on ways in my classroom.
I am specifically asking for animal, fish and people counters, a toy hammer and nails, and a fine motor tweezer game for students to use in the classroom.
Fine motor skills are important in early math activities, especially counting, for preschoolers because they allow children to physically manipulate objects to represent numbers, which helps them with their understanding of quantity and number concepts, essentially laying the foundation for more complex math skills later on; this is particularly crucial in pre-K as children are developing hand-eye coordination and dexterity needed for tasks like writing and counting objects.
My goals for this project are for students to work on counting, quantifying, cardinality, one to one correspondence, ordinance, and using their fingers and hands to manipulate materials. These early math and fine motor skills are essential for early STEM.
My students are special because they are excited and eager to learn, especially with novel math and fine motor manipulatives!
