You Can Count on Me: Calculators for Those In Need

Help me give my students the ability to be successful in chemistry by supplying calculators for the difficult calculations we do in class.

My Project

Chemistry is a difficult area of science. Not only do you have the in depth theory and hands on portions that everyone thinks of when they hear the word 'chemistry', but there is a lot of math that goes on behind that theory. I want to make these math topics easier for my students over all.

Calculators are essential for being successful in chemistry and many students do not have access to, or the ability to buy, them.

My school is a very diverse place-racially, socially, economically, and more. When students come into my class, they should all have the same tools and materials to work with. Right now, many of my students do not have calculators which is detrimental to their learning in this class as several topics are math heavy and cannot be completed without one.

It is my hope that, with your help, I can have almost a class set of calculators that can be borrowed when we get to the math heavy sections by students who do not have their own personal materials. This will allow for my class to be more equitable and give struggling students access to tools that can help them do better in my class.
