This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our children are dreamers. They are eager and motivated to learn. They come from families who are hard-working, and they are teaching their children that same motivation for learning. Many of our families fall below the national poverty levels; some experiencing the situation of being homeless or are home insecure. In addition, English is a second language for the majority of our families or they are bilingual households.
Every child deserves a great start.
Our children deserve no less than great. Our children are getting ready for Kindergarten, and it is our job to prepare them! When parents and students are able to worry less about where materials needed for school will come from they can put paychecks towards other things and will make attending school more accessible leading to a greater outcome for school readiness.
My Project
We were funded beautiful multicultural music instruments in our "Put the Rhythm in Preschool" project and now we need storage to display them. We are seeking a storage shelf and bins to store Djembe drums, triangles, maracas, castanets, drums, tambourines, sand blocks, Den Den Daiko drums, and multicultural music books.
Instruments that are displayed in an inviting way will bring children to them!
The shelf contains 8 colored bins and 3 larger clear bins. I plan to display the instruments by labeling the bins with real pictures of people playing the instruments. This will be exciting and inviting to my preschool students who are drawn to colorful materials and real pictures.
I have also already created a book of people playing the instruments we have received which will be displayed on this shelf along with other books about the instruments and people playing them all over the world. I am also seeking 6 books of people playing instruments from around the world in this project to accompany my hand made book and the song books we currently have in our music area. It is important for children to see people who look like them doing great things and it is also important for children to see people who don't look like them so they can see that all people are capable of doing great things; these 6 books on keyboards, percussion, strings, woodwind, voices and brass will help me to accomplish this by highlighting people from all over the world of many different backgrounds playing instruments and making music.
