Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. (Albert Einstein) Math makes too many people feel like climbing fish and I want to help put an end to that!
My students live in an urban area.
Our school serves about 375 students from Pre-K through 5th grade. Although only about 1/3 of my students and their families are considered low income as set by federal standards, many more are close to that marker.
My Project
The key to teaching and learning is differentiation. With a set of tablets, students can work independently or in small groups to review and interact with concepts in a variety of ways simultaneously. There are endless apps and websites to support all levels of learners with any given math concept. The tablets also also the work they do to be shared immediately and archived for later reference.
With access to tablets, disengaged students, English language learners, students with IEPs, grade level and advanced learners can take more ownership of their learning.
They can do this alone, with a partner or a small group all while using tablets as tools to help them access more ways to deepen their understanding and extend their learning of math.
