Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

After five years of being a coordinator, I am going back to the classroom. I love teaching science. Our science department has been running on fumes for many years. I want the students to love Science as much as I do.

My seventh-grade students will learn about the anatomy of a plant via the materials I am requesting.

We will culminate with a final exam that includes a two-week dissection of a frog! I want the students to feel like college students in a real lab. Your donation of frogs will do just that. The microscope will allow the students to study the cells that are found in the plants they grew while learning about genetics. The light system will allow the class to grow plants at a faster rate (30 days!). The same light system will help the students learn about photosynthesis. As we delve into health, the bacteria slides will allow the students to understand how infection work within the body.

Both seventh and eighth grade will benefit from the lens kits where they will explore light and its behaviors. The chemical reactions will leave them wanting to learn more about endothermic and exothermic reactions. The students will be wowed by seeing how molecules can be rearranged to make a new compound (elephants toothpaste and polyurethane foam). I am excited just writing about the activities.

I want the students to love science. Life and the physical sciences will be something the students come to school eager to learn about. To think in the future, one of these students may save humanity and it all started with you.
