Our school is considered a title I school. Many of the children live in low-income housing, hotels, and could be in shelters. For some, English is their second language, and many have experienced traumatic experiences that most of us can hardly comprehend. Some have special needs and every student at our school qualifies for free breakfast and free lunch. My students work hard and are eager to learn new ideas and skills. I have a room full of kindergartners that have worked very hard all year and I think they deserve a special book to carry with them throughout their educational journey! On the last day of school, our class will have a huge Completion of a Kindergarten celebration. The theme will be a Hawaiian Luau with decorations and treats. Each student will receive a certificate and an award for their particular talent. But I want them to also take a book as well. I discovered this amazing book by Eric Carle titled, You Are Ready! The World is Waiting a couple of years ago and love it!
In this book Eric Carle reminds young readers that the key to achieving all they desire lies within themselves, so what better book to give each student?
I will sign and date each book with a special message to that child. What a special memory for that child and their parents! I hope you can help provide this special gift for my students because they are pretty awesome!
I will also give each parent a framed picture of their child in a cap and gown so I am also requesting photo paper and frames.
