My Students

Alum Creek, WV is a small rural community whose citizens have a very tight bond. We are diverse economically, but a newcomer would never know that by witnessing our students interacting. The students and staff work hard at instilling a love of learning and exploring that will last a lifetime. They persevere when faced with a challenge, creatively inspire our community, and believe in one another. They are tomorrow's leaders and world-changers. They are our future and together we can help them soar to their dreams.

My Project

Have you ever worried about fitting in or being accepted at a new job? Think back to your elementary school days. Were you ever nervous the day before school started? Guess what, those feelings are still happening to students of all ages. The book 'How to Be Cool in the Third Grade' by Betsy Duffey helps students to understand that they are not alone in their apprehension.

Reading and dissecting this chapter book will enhance my students' enthusiasm for third grade and hopefully teach them ways handle life's curveballs.

I plan to use the book to integrate different subjects and correlate the situations to everyday life.
