Yoto Players to Grow Amazing Readers!

My Project

I have always loved listening to audiobooks. They gave me the chance to be swept away time and time again. I would love for my students to have access to a kid friendly, screen-free way of listening to audio stories.

Over 30 of my 48 first graders are learning English as their second language this year.

I would love to give them as much access to literature as I can. Reading and oracy are two areas my students are struggling in. Being read to is one of the best ways to target both of these areas. I teach each set of 24 students for only a half a day. In the limited amount of time I spend with them, I do not have the time to read to them as much as I would like. Having these Yoto Players would give them access to stories for literacy centers, morning time, and any time they compete work during the day.

Not only would these be used at school, but students could check them out to take home. Many of my families do not read English. Yoto Players would give a few students a night access to hearing stories read aloud to them at home too.
