Yosemite Adventure!

Help me give my students the opportunity to visit Yosemite National Park in order to heighten their awareness of the natural world and learn to appreciate nature in its fullest form.

My Students

I teach in a public high school classroom. I teach 200 students every day in my five sections of CP Biology. I also coach the boys varsity soccer team and am the lead advisor for the Yosemite Club. The Yosemite Club is designed to expose students to the beauty of nature while instilling in them a sense of community and belonging in an ever-changing planet.

My students are inquisitive, enthusiastic, and creative; they are eager to participate in any kind of challenge.

My students come from diverse cultural backgrounds and nationalities as my school is 40% Latino and many of these students come from low-income households. Exposing my students to the wonders of the natural world will help promote their involvement in becoming stewards of our planet.

My Project

In order to give students more access to the outdoors, we founded the Yosemite Club back in 1971 where students can build their leadership skills, practice team building, and learn about themselves while learning about the world that surrounds them. The club meets once a week during lunch and we go on weekend field trips twice a month.

Each year, on the third week in March, our students experience the Yosemite Trip as a culminating activity in which they explore nature and, among other things, engage in scientific learning and environmental activism.

To get started, we are requesting the funds for our annual one-week-long outdoor educational program hosted by Nature Bridge at Yosemite National Park.
