Yoga & Mindfulness, High School Students Breaking the Cycle
I need to reach my students with a creative approach. Yoga , Mindfulness and Social Emotional Learning Certification/ Training will allow me to help release my students from anxiety, stress, anger to name a few.
I’m a School Social Worker in a high school school based youth service Program. I work with students who reside in an urban school district where almost 80% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunches. The students I work with have difficulty regulating their emotions, are depressed, anxious, self harm or suicidal, attendance and behavior concerns. Majority of my student live with a single parent and have multiple siblings. Many of my students are the first to graduate in their families and first to have an opportunity to go to college.
The benefits of yoga and mindfulness are outstanding. The use of meditation can truly be beneficial. Once trained I intend to have mindful breaks during the school day. Student who were referred to in school suspension will be provided with yoga and tools to teach healthy responses when in a triggered state of mind. Students will be provided in their class with ways to relieve stress and anxiety.
I will be working with teachers on how to implement a 2 minute mindful meditation in their class.
Programs will be provided for the families in the community to help them grow as well.
