This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am asking for help to fund the cost of attending a virtual wellness, social-emotional learning, and yoga training to provide a comprehensive yoga program to a diverse body of students. Breathe for Change is a program specifically geared towards teachers to enhance the well-being of our students. I have experienced firsthand the myriad benefits of yoga and mindful breathing in my own personal life. I also have had the chance to witness the transformative power of giving kids yoga and mindful breathing as a tool in my classroom. I would like to receive training to improve on how I teach mindfulness, yoga, and social-emotional learning practices so that I can build a bigger yoga program at my school to reach more children of various ages.

The kids at my school are underserved and many have experienced trauma from a very young age.

This training will help me become better equipped to teach inclusive and trauma-informed yoga classes to young people as well as aid me in designing and facilitating wellness and social emotional learning practices to pass on to other teachers and leaders in my school. For far too long yoga in the West has been a privilege enjoyed by only those who can afford it. This training will provide me with tools to work towards making yoga accessible towards a more diverse and inclusive body of students. Yoga should be for all!
