My students need yoga mats in order to complete a unit of study on yoga. These yoga mats will allow for them to practice the different methods and strategies that they find through research.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school is located in the city of Rochester, where poverty is all too familiar to our students. Many of them come from unsafe or violent neighborhoods. How do I make school a place that they want to be?

My 4th-6th grade students are in need of strategies to help them self-reflect on their feelings.

Social emotional and mental health are important to every individual and especially important in our youth. It is my goal to teach them strategies to deal with day to day emotions and general mental health.

My Project

Through the use of an enrichment course, I will be leading students through a study of yoga practices and fundamentals. It is my vision to have them understand the purpose and benefits of yoga along with practicing yoga and experiencing the positive affects.

Allowing each students their own yoga mat will also allow them their own personal space for movement and serenity.

The goal is to have the students participate in yoga practices at least three times a week to fully understand its impact. The other two days, students will be furthering their knowledge of yoga through reading and research.
