My Students
The students in my school have very little time to get active in the classroom. When they do get the opportunity to go to the gym, I want them to be moving around and having fun at the same time. My students are loving and caring third graders.
They work hard in their assignments, and strive to do their best.
They come from low income housing where they all receive school breakfast and lunch. They love to move and be active. They receive two periods of gym a week, and love staying active.
My Project
My students and I will use the yoga videos through our classroom Smart board through out the school day. Transitions between classes can get hectic and stressful.
Using yoga instruction at certain points of the day will help calm and refocus my students.
I know the flashcards that go the videos will help them clear their minds and be ready for the next subject. There is so much to learn and do in third grade, the ipod and voice amplifier will be used to instruct students on poses and work on calming their nerves during testing. The ipod will provide calming music throughout the day to be paired with our yoga instruction.
I'm also requesting literacy on yoga to teach my class the history and benefits of yoga as exercise.
This project is so important because it will help ease the stresses of the classroom, and also will help in bringing awareness to healthy lifestyles and exercise throughout the day!
