Yoga Explorers: Journey to Mindfulness

Help me give my students the opportunity to participate in an age appropriate fun, interactive, and well-rounded yoga experience that instills healthy habits, supports social emotional well-being, and promotes lifelong wellness both on and off the mat.

My Project

I am lucky to work with students in grades K-4! I primarily work with English Language Learners, but native English speaking children are also in my classes. However, many of my students do not have accessibility to a free local kids yoga program. My goal is to provide two free intramural yoga explorers programs each semester. One for grades k-2 and the other 3-4. The program will provide my aspiring yogis with the resources needed on their journey to mindfulness both on and off the mat.

Yoga can have a profound impact in a child's life by contributing to their physical, mental, and social emotional well-being.

I will use the yoga mats and blocks to enhance physical fitness and promote flexibility, strength and balance. The mat also provides personal space for students to practice mindfulness and stay present. It is also a space for children to express their creativity. The expandable balls are excellent tools to help students regulate emotions by connecting to their breath, and they will build on creativity, social skills, and friendships through interactive games and sharing the balls. I will incorporate diverse literature to promote a sense of calmness and mindful listening in warm up or cool down activities.

Donations of these materials will eliminate economic barriers that prohibit my students from participating in programs such as this. I will be able to incorporate yoga into children's lives and encourage healthier lifestyle choices and positive well-being.
