Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Tired of TV reruns? Imagine having to read the same story, over and over again!

I have a class of 20 boys and 5 girls from the impoverished Latino community.

All of them have the biggest Texan hearts. One of my favorite stories from this class was when during the school carnival one student was not allowed to participate because his family didn't buy him any tickets in advance. Every one of my students (without my prompt) gave up one of their own tickets so that the lonely student could join the school party.

My Project

All of my students have an award winning sense of storytelling waiting to be furthered by more literature and enrichment! Some of my students have already entered into statewide literary competitions and I know that if they could have access to more Spanish books and literature materials their scores would shoot even higher!

I want to instill in my students a love of learning, and I know that one of the greatest ways to do so is to have an extensive library filled with books from all genres and regions.

It allows students to open their minds to a wider world of possibilities then their urban environment confines them to.
