Yes, You Can Have A Math/Science Education And Career.
My students need assorted supplies to teach Science fundamentals of Heat, Light and Sound and the associated Math concepts.

My Students
Heat, Light and Math are basic parts of the 6th Grade Curriculum. To really bring these topics home, a number of hands-on demonstrations or experiments need to take place. These activities solidify the concepts in the students minds and help them reason out the way they apply to the world.
My students are a great bunch of kids.
They are caught up in a very fast paced life and many of the basic Science and Math principles seem very distant from them. Each year we require Science Experiments and Math exercises from them. In the past few years the experiments have not really been true experiments (they were more like product surveys or displays). I want to really awaken a keen sense of Investigative Science in my students. I want them to ponder some of the Science they see around them in every day life. I want them to develop an inquiring mind as it relates to Science and Math. They can understand the basics of why things occur out in nature and what Math and Science principles are associated with those occurrences. As they understand these principles they will also become more safety conscious and better able to protect themselves out in the world. They have the ability to discover their great potential.
My Project
The fraction kit will provide excellent materials to reinforce fractions and "part of a whole" concepts. Workstations can be set up from this kit for additional hands on training to students who are having a tough time grasping fractions and ratios. The thermometers and batteries (both manual and electronic) will provide experiences for students in demonstrations and experiments to see differences in temperatures. These tools will reinforce concepts we study of heat transfers, conduction, convection and radiation (temperatures are a part of everything in this world). They will also help students in their Science Fair projects when they get down to details. Prisms, flashlights and pipe lights will be excellent for workstations to help reinforce concepts of refraction and bending of light. The planet book and magnetic solar system discs can reinforce 6th grade curriculum in space and solar system topics Hopefully these items can help students grasp these math/science concepts.
This project will impact four classes of around 35 students in each class.
Most of the materials will also go on for future class years. But the most dramatic change will be in the lives of these students. They can discover how many opportunities can come their way just from Science and Math education. They can become the highly educated people of the future. These 6th graders can obtain the technical and desired jobs in the future (if they can gain that Math and Science excitement now).
